What’s wrong with my brakes????
It is important to note that, for your safety, any brake faults should be checked as soon as possible.
Most people notice a problem with their brakes by hearing a noise. When your brake pads are worn right down, you may hear metal rubbing on metal. This is usually because the pads have worn right down. If this has happened, we like to sometimes recommend that the discs are also changed. This is because the metal against metal noise you are hearing, is the pads grinding against the discs, this then causes damage to the disc. If you put new pads on old discs, it can potentially damage the new pads. We will show you any damage that may have been caused upon your request.
If your car is pulling to one side when you brake, this too could be due to wear and tear. It could also be a result of a sticking calliper which would cause uneven wear and tear to your pads. There may be some contamination from brake fluid, this too can result in your car pulling to one side when braking.
You may experience some kind of juddering and noise together when braking. This could be a number of things, including pads sticking in the callipers which can lead to bent or damaged back plates. This can also happen if your discs are unevenly worn or anti-rattle springs are fitted badly.
There are many other possible faults with a vehicle's braking system. Our mechanics are fully trained and qualified to diagnose and correct these faults. If you would like to discuss any braking problems, please call 0800 1973 218 and we will be more than willing to help you in any way we can.
